You need complete clarity on what you can and can’t agree to before you start negotiating.

●● Present your preparation and strategy to your manager.
●● Get written approval of your negotiation agenda.

ACTION: As soon as you’ve prepared for your next negotiation, run the details past your boss. It might be a little bit tricky to get the sign off, but be persistent. A clear mandate is vital.
